Historically,
Bolsover District Council, and its predecessor authorities, Bolsover Urban District
Council, Clowne Rural District Council, and Blackwell Rural District, have been dominated
by councillors nominated by the political parties , particularly the Labour Party. More
recently. however, small inroads have been made into this predominance, and currently
there are five Independent Councillors on the Council.
As Independent
Councillors, we believe there is a need in Local Government for representation independent
of political dogma, and a platform for the views of local people whose interests lie in
the wider spectrum of local administration
We have no desire to
dominate Local Government, just to have a greater say in how it is run. A greater number
of Independent Councillors can ensure this. Even as a larger minority group, our influence
can be much more far reaching. As a majority group, our influence would be paramount, but
not necessarily at the expense of the minority groups. They deserve fair represenation
too.
We feel that councils that
are not dominated by one particular group or another, are more accountable to the
electorate, and the decision making process is more open and transparent.
If you agree with
our views and aims, then Bolsover District Council could benefit from your contribution.
